July Newsletter Stoneygate Edition

Welcome to my monthly update for the residents and communities of the Stoneygate Ward Neighbourhood Policing Area East Leicester. This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.

– PCSO 6861 Sam Trantom

  • Particular areas of concern include Abingdon Road (large numbers of young people gathering but numbers reducing), St James Rd and Evington Rd (street drinking), Onslow Park, picked up from patch walks with multi-agencies, patrols, and Cllr meetings
  •

  • Drug dealing (Abingdon Rd, Evington Footway, St James Rd), associated noise and accessing communal blocks (St Albans), littering of drugs packaging in open areas (Abingdon Road, Onslow Park) and Lincoln Street
  •

  • Road Safety, parking and Speeding. In particular, zig zag parking on Evington Road, junction blocking off this main strip, and speeding on Key streets including Evington Lane and Stoughton Drive North leading to Evington Road
  •

  • We are pleased to say that our pro-active efforts to tackle street drinking has provided some respite for people around the St Stephens, Evington Road, St James Road area. Identified street drinkers have been issued with Community Protection Notice Warnings (CPNWs) or ASB warnings.
PCSO Trantom has been working in conjunction with our new Safer Streets team of three PCs. They will be taking the lead on following up on any breaches of the CPNWs. At the moment, the group have been staying away.
PCSO Trantom is leading an investigation into reports of youths hanging around Maple Court on Sparkenhoe Street involved in smoking drugs and general anti-social behaviour. He is working in conjunction with the housing officer.
PC Patecka and PCSO Akhtar have been following up on concerns of residents on Laurel Road that a chemical smell has been happening. After joint visits with other agencies, it has been established this has come from burning of items in a rear garden. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue have issued a warning to the property. As part of our consultations, some fire-setting of waste bins have also been taking place and this is being looked into. Hopefully this will reassure local residents.
Please do report any ASB issues through to us via 101 or by emailing communitysafety@leicester.gov.uk
  • True to prediction in last month’s update, PC Robinson has been out there looking to disrupt drug activity.
She supported the Neighbourhood Priority Team (NPT) who were on plain clothes and uniform patrol on 30/07/25. A male was seen to be dealing on a scooter at the bottom end of London Road.
An NPT officer did a fantastic job spotting a male coming out of a flat onto London Road. He immediately tried to detain the male but he fought to get away. A long foot chase ensued by the officer down Evington Footway all the way to Beckingham Road. The male was red-dotted and arrested for being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs and Assault Police Constable. He was further arrested for criminal damage and for being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin from subsequent searches. It was extremely brave by the officer and the investigation continues.
PC Robinson and PC Patecka supported officers dealing with a high value cigarette break-in. They PC Robinson arrested one of the suspects then the pair conducting a search and found a further £250,000 worth of cigarettes, recovered 26 exhibits of drugs, weapons, and phones. Great work!
PC Woolley and PCSO Trantom have also carried out proactive patrols on St James Road and a male was spotted near Tennyson Street who has been identified by residents as a drug dealer. Stop and search was carried out with one small bag of cannabis recovered. The male was issued with a community resolution to seek rehabilitative support with his drug use and the drugs destroyed.

Another great result by the NPT on our beat includes a warrant that was executed on Avon Street. The defendant
pleaded guilty at his hearing on 28/7/25 with regards to possession with intent to supply cocaine and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

He was given 8 months sentence for the PWITS cannabis and 292 weeks for PWITS cocaine. This is obviously a significant sentence, and he was also on licence with 8 years left to serve on this. This is a significant result for the beat and our thanks to PC Dudman especially!

  • PC Robinson and PC Woolley have been patrolling together on the beat and conducting numerous stop checks. We realise that the situation on Evington Road, especially at busy times, remains a challenge for road users. Several Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) have been issued and motorists spoken to and a vehicle has been seized for having no insurance. At the end of the month PC Robinson has charged a male with drink driving and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence. These efforts are part of our endeavours to make the roads safer and educate motorists.
Please do not park on Zig Zags. This inconsiderate parking can cause unnecessary road safety concerns as they are designed to protect pedestrians as they cross the road. Thank you.
